What can we learn from Beavers?

The IES Foundation of Water Research (FWR) community provides a fantastic source of education and discussion towards the science of water management. Adam Cane (Sustainability lead at ACO) has collaborated with FWR to discuss sustainable drainage systems (SUDS), exploring what we can learn from the behaviour of beavers and how, like beavers, our health is impacted by urbanisation.

Las abundantes precipitaciones provocadas por la DANA durante este fin de semana en la Península Ibérica o fenómenos climáticos como #ElNiño en el Pacífico tienen un gran impacto negativo sobre las ciudades modernas.

Debido a la pavimentación masiva de las calles, la capacidad natural de infiltración del terreno se ha reducido considerablemente, lo que acaba provocando la sobrecarga de las redes de saneamiento municipales. Por esta razón, cada vez más municipios redactan planes sobre cómo actuar ante este tipo de inundaciones urbanas.

En estos planes, se recomienda la instalación de Sistemas Urbanos de Drenaje Sostenible (SUDS) como medida principal para minimizar los posibles daños provocados por el agua.

Los #SUDS son técnicas de gestión de aguas pluviales diseñados tanto para imitar procesos hidrológicos naturales como para controlar la escorrentía en el paisaje urbano.

Bajo el concepto ACO WaterCycle, que organiza nuestros productos a lo largo del ciclo completo del agua, desarrollamos y ofrecemos las soluciones más óptimas a la hora de diseñar SUDS.
