♻️👷 Did you know that hard hats have a ‘use by’ date after which they need to be replaced? As part of our commitment to reducing waste to landfill and increasing our #recycling rates across our UK sites, we have joined the National Hard Hat Recycling Scheme (YES RECYCLING GROUP).
We will send our end-of-life or damaged hard hats directly to a dedicated recycling facility where they will be shredded, with all of the plastic being fully recovered and made back into “new” plastic pellets. These pellets are then sent back into UK #manufacturing as a raw material. In this way, all hard hats are fully recycled right here in the UK.

🚝Rail platforms are one of the busiest public spaces adjacent to our city transport corridors. Not only are these flat and level surfaces hard to drain, they also need to cater for all commuter requirements, namely wheelchairs, walking canes, high heels etc... 🚧👨🦯👩🦽
Designers must accommodate for a number of safety codes as well as ensuring effective drainage. Here is an instance, where the Downer team has got it right.

In urban roads and in the public built environment, kerb inlet pit structures are everywhere !
But should they be❓
For many years, engineers have understood first hand that these structures can become very problematic and difficult to integrate particularly where excavation space is limited.
Furthermore the Austroads Guide to Road Design (Part 5A) advises that trench drains are better suited to deal with stormwater runoff in these problem areas.
For an introduction, a deep dive into the issues and a look at some viable options, visit our technical pages: 👇

Along Australia’s east coast, recent storms have made us acutely aware of the importance of surface water management directly outside of buildings. 🏬🏦
The stark reality is if you do not deal with water in the exposed areas adjacent to buildings, then you may be forced to deal with water at the building line where it is more difficult to manage.
For building designers, landscapers and contractors, all potential problems and issues must be considered upfront to greatly reduce the total project cost.🌧🌩🌫🌊
We’ve put together a short checklist, to lean more, click here ✅

Trench drains are used extensively to deal with stormwater runoff in road applications, particularly in restricted spaces where only compact solutions are required.
To assist engineers to define these spaces during the design phase of projects, BIM models are now available for TraffikDrain in IFC files and RFA files.
IFC files can be read and edited by any BIM software including 12D used by civil designers. RFA files can be used with Autodesk Revit software.
